A Detailed Guide to a Styled Bed

In our recent Facebook
post, we give a detailed guide to styling you bed and how to utilise the colour wheel. If you haven’t seen this, we decided to post it in our blog. We provide you with five tips and tricks for creating a beautifully styled bed that will make you feel like you're sleeping in a luxurious hotel room every night. From choosing the right bedding to adding accent pillows and throws, we've got you covered. So, let's get started on creating your dream bed!

1. Protecting Your Mattress:
Investing in a good quality mattress protector is an essential step in maintaining the lifespan of your mattress. Apart from protecting it from moisture and bacteria, a mattress protector can also prevent the accumulation of dust, allergens, and stains, keeping your mattress hygienic and fresh. More so, a mattress protector can improve your sleeping experience by adding a layer of comfort and breathability to your bed. When selecting a mattress protector, consider the material, breathability, and waterproofing features.

2. Choosing the Right Bedsheets:
When selecting bed sheets, there are several factors to consider, including the fabric, thread count, style, and colour. Flannel sheets are an excellent choice for cold weather, as they provide warmth and are cosy. However, if you live in a warmer climate, consider opting for cotton or linen sheets, which are breathable and lightweight. Additionally, you can experiment with various styles, such as sateen or percale, to suit your preference. Higher thread count does not always mean better quality. With higher thread counts, they can retain heat due to the amount of threads per square inch. Find out about the differences in bed sheets in our 2 part series here.

3. Selecting the Perfect Quilt Cover:
Quilt covers come in a wide range of designs, patterns, and colours, making it easy to find one that matches your decor style. When selecting a quilt cover, consider the colour combination and design. A split colour combination, for instance, involves using complementary colour, such as red and green, to create a vibrant and contrasting look. On the other hand, an analogous colour combination involves using colours that are next to each other on the colour wheel, such as blue and green. Additionally, you can play around with the different shades, tints and hues of the colours to create a harmonious look and will help in the deciding process for your cushions and throw.

4. Adding Cushions to Your Bed:
Cushions are an excellent way to add texture and dimension to your bed. When selecting cushions, consider the size, shape, and colour. Mix and match different textures, such as velvet and faux fur, to create a luxurious and cosy feel. Additionally, you can experiment with different sizes and shapes to create a layered effect. This will create proportion, scale and emphasis.

5. Finishing Touches with a Throw:
A throw is a perfect finishing touch to your bed, adding a pop of colour and texture. When selecting a throw, consider the material and design. Wool, for instance, is an excellent choice for colder weather, as it provides warmth and insulation. Alternatively, a cotton or linen throw is a great choice for warmer weather, as it is breathable and lightweight. Additionally, you can experiment with different designs, such as stripes or geometric patterns, to add visual interest to your bed. Don’t forget to apply the 60-30-10 rule when styling your bed.
